Couples Therapy

When working with couples, I primarily focus on improving communication skills using the Gottman method.

Gottman Method Couples Therapy is an approach to couples counseling developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, based on over 40 years of research studying thousands of couples. The method is known for being highly structured and research-based, focusing on strengthening what they call the "Sound Relationship House Theory."

The therapy process typically involves:
1. Initial joint assessment
2. Individual interviews with each partner
3. Feedback session where the therapist shares their assessment
4. Therapeutic interventions targeting specific issues

What makes Gottman therapy distinctive is its emphasis on:
  • Building friendship as the foundation of intimacy
  • Managing conflict rather than resolving it
  • Creating shared meaning in the relationship
  • Using research-based interventions
  • Practical tools and exercises couples can use at home

The approach is particularly effective for:
  • Improving communication
  • Resolving conflicts
  • Rebuilding trust after infidelity
  • Strengthening emotional connection
  • Navigating major life transitions
