What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a form of psychotherapy with roots in existing evidence-based therapies but shown to achieve benefits much more rapidly. The process is very straightforward, using relaxing eye movements and a technique called Voluntary Image Replacement to change the way in which the negative images are stored in the brain.

ART is finally available in the Los Angeles area.

Why ART?
Many clients are treated in a single session.  ART works for people who have not had success with other forms of therapy.  You do not need to tell me any painful or difficult details about your past trauma in order to feel better.

What can ART treat?
Traumas from: Childhood abuse, PTSD, death of a loved one, combat trauma, violence, neglect, sexual assault, surgeries, accidents, etc.
Phobias: Fear of animals, flying, water, heights, small spaces, public speaking, etc.
Symptoms from: Difficult breakups, nightmares, rejection by family members, death of a pet, bullying, workplace stress, etc.

If a past event is causing you current suffering, it is very likely that ART can help.  ART has been found to be helpful even when you do not know the specific origin of your problem.

Who is ART for?
People who have not found relief from traditional talk therapy.  People who have never tried therapy.  People who are not comfortable telling a therapist the details of their trauma history.

History

What does a session look like?
Sessions last 80 minutes on average.  You are always in control of the entire ART session, with the therapist guiding the process. Although many traumatic experiences can be very painful to think about or visualize, this therapy rapidly moves toward growth, relief, and positive changes.  Most of my clients feel significantly better by the end of the first session.  Importantly, you do not even have talk about your traumas or difficult life experiences with me to achieve relief from your symptoms.

Who should not use ART?
ART is not recommended for use by children who are too young to sit for the duration of a session.  If you are under the care of an ophthalmologist due to a disease of the eye, please seek medical advice before scheduling your ART session.  Please see the Resources page for links to emergency services and traditional therapy providers.

Evidence-Based and Scientifically Researched
ART is officially recognized at the federal level by the National Registry of Evidence Based Programs and Practices (NREPP). ART was found to be an effective psychotherapy for PTSD, depression, stress, and personal resilience. ART was also classified as a promising therapy for symptoms of phobia, panic, anxiety, sleep and wake disorders, disruptive and antisocial behaviors, general functioning and well-being.  ART is not magic and is it not hypnosis.

ART has been shown to be effective in multiple studies, including a Department of Defense study of combat-related trauma.  Studies have shown that most clients have significant improvement in their symptoms after only 1-5 sessions.  The average number of sessions needed to resolve symptoms of combat trauma was found to be 3.  ART works even for veterans who have not been helped by other forms of therapy.
